Advertising
Throughout the past couple years I’ve seen more and more advertising on social media sites. I think that this could be a beneficial way of advertising because everyone is on sites like Facebook and Twitter. For these social media sites to make money they have to place ads on their pages. This gives businesses a chance to advertising on them and put their name out there. One benefit of this is that people all over the world see these. You aren’t just advertising in one region you are advertising to a larger audience.
I have noticed on Facebook that many company are making Facebook’s to get their companies name out there. This is a very good idea because its free advertising. When you make a Facebook you don’t have to pay for it and it’s a great way for a large amount of people to see what your company s about. For example my father owns a high-end car dealership. They have a Facebook page that they post all the new cars on that have arrived. This is useful because it allows all our recent customers and friend to see the new inventory without going on the web site. Yes they might not be interested in a car at that time but if someone sees a car that they really desire nothing can stop them form changing things up a little bit. I feel like over the next couple years more and more companies will resort to social media sites because it is an inexpensive or free way to advertise.

There is no doubt that sites like Facebook have an outstanding geographical reach, and come with many benefits for advertisers. However, what worries me is that ads paid by large companies targeting demographics based on past search history, pages you've liked, and online purchases. It seems to me that they are tip toeing around a line that may be breaching individual's privacy. I think Facebook is a great way, especially for local/small businesses, to get their name out. Like you stated it is free and there is a mass audience and numerous other benefits. As far as large companies are concerned I think there should be more regulations set forth to limit how they can target you.
